Veins and translucency
Marble can transmit light through its pale background and carry veins through the damaged area. A repair may blend with the base colour while retaining a difference in translucency or pattern. Send photographs showing the chip and undamaged stone nearby. If a vein crosses the damage, include its direction in the wider image so the appearance can be assessed.
Different damage needs different work
A missing edge piece is not the same as an etched patch, stain or fine surface scratch. Describe whether the concern is missing material, a dull mark or a discoloured area. A chip repair quote should identify the missing section being rebuilt. Natural-stone restoration, stain treatment and sealing may require separate advice and should not be assumed to be included.
The surrounding installation
Damage at a narrow sink rail or an unsupported corner may need more than a cosmetic fill. Photograph the nearby opening and tell us whether any part feels loose or has moved. Do not press on suspect stone to demonstrate movement. Where the surrounding installation is unsuitable, replacement or support work may be discussed before deciding on a local repair.
Finish and aftercare
The agreed repair aims to follow the edge profile and reduce the visual impact of the damage. A difference may remain in colour, sheen or veining. Follow the repair-specific cleaning and return-to-use instructions, and continue using cleaning products suitable for marble. The correct handover depends on the repair material and any additional treatment included in the job.
Questions, answered.
What photos should I send for this repair?
Send a full view, clear close-ups with a size reference, the material name if known and your suburb. Include previous repairs, coatings and access details.
Is an invisible result guaranteed?
No. Colour, pattern, texture, lighting and damage affect the result. The written quote explains the likely finish and practical limitations for your stone.
