Show the construction
Photograph the top, vertical edge and underside where visible. Identify whether the damage is a small chip, a separated join or a loose strip. A close-up of only the face can hide the construction that controls the repair.
Discuss ongoing movement
If the edge strip moves or the damage extends along the join, avoid pressing it back into place. A larger adhesive or support problem may need a different scope from rebuilding a single impact chip.
Set the finish expectation
Pattern alignment and sheen can remain different after repair. On porcelain and sintered surfaces, printed veining at the edge may not be reproducible. The quote should explain the achievable improvement rather than promise a new-slab appearance.
A chip and a loose strip are different
If a small piece has chipped away but the surrounding edge is stable, the assessment may focus on rebuilding shape. If the vertical strip has separated along a length, adhesion and support become central. Show the full edge in the same enquiry so a local cosmetic quote is not mistaken for repair of the entire edge assembly.
Plan the surrounding work
Move stools and loose furniture out of the work zone, and explain whether the edge meets a waterfall or corner join. Do not remove a heavy strip yourself. Where an edge cannot be made sound in place, an alternative should be discussed before a cosmetic repair is booked.

What is the next step?
Send photos, your suburb and the relevant material or fitting details. The team will clarify the proposed work, its limitations and the quote before an appointment is agreed.
