Chip repairs on speckled stone benchtops

Speckled stone has a base colour and visible aggregate. A repair needs to consider both, along with the damaged edge and surface texture.

Look beyond the background colour

Speckled stone can contain particles of different sizes, tones and translucency. A patch matching only the background may appear too plain. Close photographs should show undamaged material beside the chip so the pattern can be assessed. Send the product name if available, but do not assume every speckled bench is engineered stone; natural granite can have a granular appearance too.

Where the chip sits

A small chip on a front edge presents different visibility and access from damage on a flat top or a sink rim. The missing material and edge profile determine the proposed scope. Photograph the chip from above, straight ahead and slightly underneath where accessible. A crack extending away from the chip needs to be included in the assessment.

Blending has practical limits

The existing pattern is distributed through the original material. Repair material can aim to blend with that appearance, but it does not recreate the manufacturing process or natural formation of the slab. The finished patch may retain a difference under close inspection. We discuss colour, texture and lighting rather than guaranteeing every aggregate pattern can be duplicated exactly.

Getting an appropriate quote

Provide dimensions, access details and the repair history. Standard chip repair starts from $450 + GST ($495 total), with additional small chips typically adding $100 + GST ($110 total) and larger chips $150 + GST ($165 total), subject to the written scope. The number of damaged areas matters: one photograph should not hide separate chips elsewhere on the benchtop. Show each location clearly.

Questions, answered.

What photos should I send for this repair?

Send a full view, clear close-ups with a size reference, the material name if known and your suburb. Include previous repairs, coatings and access details.

Is an invisible result guaranteed?

No. Colour, pattern, texture, lighting and damage affect the result. The written quote explains the likely finish and practical limitations for your stone.
