Enlarging an opening without replacing the kitchen For a standard cooktop change, the existing opening may be enlarged while keeping suitable stone in place.
Scope and preparation
We check the remaining stone and nearby features before proceeding. If the benchtop is already cracked around the opening or the new arrangement requires a cabinet to move, that needs to be explained as part of the enquiry. The standard enlargement price does not cover a complete kitchen redesign. Keep plumbing and stone work clearly separated A replacement sink can affect the cut-out, its exposed edge, the cabinet and pipe connections. Explain whether you are changing the sink style or simply the opening.
Discussing your appointment
Standard sink cutting is priced separately from plumbing and from unusual fabrication or edge finishing. Your plumber should manage the relevant disconnection and reconnection, and the agreed stone scope should be clear before either visit is booked. If someone else will be present, share their contact details when confirming the appointment. For a rented property, obtain the owner’s approval for permanent modifications.

Empty the working area and cupboards or drawers near the cutting zone so the visit can begin with the kitchen prepared. Standard repairs versus larger projects An isolated chip has an established minimum call-out, but several repair types should not be bundled under that price without a scope check. A structural tabletop repair, commercial fit-out, insurance project or unusual edge construction needs individual pricing. Burns, stains and whole-surface polishing also require photos and section dimensions because the material and existing finish determine what treatment is appropriate. Standard sink cut-out: $690 + GST ($759 including GST). Minor chip repair: $450 + GST minimum call-out ($495 including GST). Prices refer to the individual standard scope; combined jobs and unusual work are quoted separately. Cutting uses controlled wet-cutting methods. For cooktop work, the existing appliance must be disconnected and removed before arrival, with cupboards and drawers near the cutting area emptied.
