Scope and preparation
The opening has to suit the fitting and the stone around it must remain suitable for the proposed alteration. A large layout change, new waterfall panel or relocated sink is a different job from enlarging a standard opening. Describe the result you want so the quote covers the actual work. Overhang removal needs a finished edge Cutting an island or breakfast-bar overhang flush leaves an exposed edge that usually needs finishing and polishing. That is a different scope from a cut edge concealed under a cooktop.
Discussing your appointment
Our established price for cutting a benchtop or overhang flush, including finishing and polishing the exposed edge, is $1,490 + GST ($1,639 including GST). Structural changes, unusual edge construction or additional fabrication require a separate assessment. Access in terraces and small blocks For a terrace or compact apartment, mention narrow entrances, stairs and the distance from parking to the kitchen. If trades are already working in the property, keep the access route and kitchen clear for the stone appointment. In streets with limited parking, practical loading information helps planning.

Do not arrange an appliance installer to arrive on the assumption that an unconfirmed cutting enquiry is already booked. Choose repair, restoration or replacement deliberately A small chip, an open joint and a burn mark are different problems. A minor chip may suit a local repair, while a burn or widespread dullness requires photos and a surface assessment. On engineered stone, sanding may leave a visible difference in factory sheen. If a crack affects the benchtop, a repair can improve its condition but cannot promise an invisible or permanently stable result; replacement is the strongest long-term option.

Standard cutting and repair prices Standard cooktop or appliance cut-out enlargement: $690 + GST ($759 including GST). Standard sink cut-out: $690 + GST ($759 including GST). Minor chip repair: $450 + GST minimum call-out ($495 including GST). Prices refer to the individual standard scope; combined jobs and unusual work are quoted separately. Cutting uses controlled wet-cutting methods.

For cooktop work, the existing appliance must be disconnected and removed before arrival, with cupboards and drawers near the cutting area emptied. Suitability is checked before work; we do not promise that every existing benchtop can be altered.
