Stone repairs during a kitchen renovation

Repair timing should follow the work that may move, stress or obstruct the benchtop. A tidy sequence can reduce the chance of repeated damage.

List the other trades

Identify planned cabinet changes, appliance replacement, plumbing and splashback work. Explain whether the stone will be lifted or remain installed. A repairer needs to know which parts of the installation are already stable.

Separate repair from alteration

A chipped edge and a larger cooktop opening are different scopes. Send both if they are part of the project, with the new fitting specifications. Dedicated cutting advice belongs with StoneCutting; new surface planning belongs with StoneCountertops.

Agree the work window

Book after the relevant support and access details are settled. Protect the repaired area from later trade traffic and follow cure instructions. Do not assume a cosmetic repair price includes disconnection or reconnection of appliances.

A useful order-of-work discussion

Ask the relevant trades when cabinet alignment, appliance removal and any support changes will be complete. Then establish whether cutting, repair or protection is needed next. The correct order depends on the installation, so a booked repair should not be treated as approval for unrelated demolition or alteration to happen around it.

Keep scope changes visible

If the renovation exposes a new crack or a larger damaged edge, send updated photos before the appointment. A quotation based on one chip may not cover the newly exposed condition. Clear communication helps the team allow the right time, materials and access rather than discovering a different job on arrival.

Questions, answered.

What is the next step?

Send photos, your suburb and the relevant material or fitting details. The team will clarify the proposed work, its limitations and the quote before an appointment is agreed.
