Chip repair on honed stone: matching the finish

A matte or honed finish still reflects light. Texture and profile deserve attention alongside the colour of a repaired chip.

Describe the intended surface

Tell us whether the original finish was honed, matte, textured or polished. Supply the product name where known and photographs of intact stone beside the chip. Do not assume a surface is honed simply because a damaged patch looks dull. Previous coatings, film or cleaning residue can influence what the photographs show.

Texture can reveal a difference

A low-sheen surface can make a glossy fill stand out even if its colour is close. The reverse can happen on a polished surface. The repair must consider the damaged shape, local texture and reflection together. Busy veining and translucent stone add further limitations. A suitable repair aims for a considered blend, with remaining differences explained.

Local repair versus whole-surface work

Rebuilding a chipped edge is a different scope from changing the finish of an entire benchtop. Natural stone and engineered stone should not be assumed to respond to the same treatment. We do not promise factory repolishing of engineered stone after sanding. Any broader honing, polishing or film work requires its own material-specific proposal.

Care after the repair

Follow the instructions for the chosen repair material and the existing stone finish. Do not add wax or household polish to conceal a difference without advice. Share the handover instructions with cleaners and occupants. For the quote, include the suburb, chip dimensions and repair history so the proposed result is based on your actual surface.
