Identify the surface and the problem
Photograph the full benchtop, the affected area and the edges. Include sinks, cooktops and nearby joints so the assessor can see the context. Tell us the material and product name if known; a similar appearance does not establish that two surfaces can be treated in the same way. For an appliance change, provide the manufacturer’s required opening dimensions, not just the appliance’s external width.
Care matched to your material
Follow the surface manufacturer’s care guidance. Avoid assuming that a product suitable for granite is suitable for marble, engineered stone or porcelain. Use chopping boards and suitable heat protection, clean spills promptly and avoid loading unsupported edges. Etching, stains, scratches and chips are different problems: identify the cause before trying a stronger cleaner or an abrasive treatment.
A written scope before booking
Compare quotations for the same damage, preparation, materials, finish and access conditions. A lower price alone does not tell you the quality of the contractor’s work. StoneRepair publishes starting prices on the pricing page; the confirmed quote depends on the assessed scope, material and travel. Send your suburb and photos first, and ask about appointment availability. Keep appliance installation, cabinet work and any separate trades clear in the quotation.
