Follow the line
An installation joint joins separate stone pieces and commonly follows a planned straight line. A fracture can run through a piece or extend from an opening. Photographs alone may not settle the distinction, especially where old filler covers the area. Show the entire line, nearby edges and the complete benchtop so the enquiry includes its context.
Show height as well as width
For a join, add a side view showing whether the two surfaces are flush. For a crack, show both ends and any connection to a sink, cooktop or corner. Explain any changes you have noticed and earlier repairs. Do not load or flex the stone to demonstrate the problem. Support concerns need separate consideration from the visible line.
Compare the proposed scope
A joint repair starts from $550 + GST ($605 total), while crack repair starts from $790 + GST ($869 total). Those are different starting scopes, not interchangeable labels for a gap. The quote confirms the material, preparation, included damage and expected finish. Long cracks or unsuitable installations can justify replacement advice; a cosmetic fill does not automatically resolve movement.
Choose your next step
Send the suburb, material details, overhead photographs and a side view. Include any previous glue, filler or cabinet work. Ask whether the proposal concerns a seam, a fracture or both, and whether additional support or another trade is required. Cracks remain visibly repaired, so the appearance should be understood before accepting the work.
Questions, answered.
What should I send for a quote?
Send a whole-surface photograph, close-ups with a size reference, your suburb, material details if known and the history of any earlier repairs or coatings.
