Porcelain chip repair: what to expect

Porcelain can be repaired cosmetically in suitable cases, but the repaired area remains visible. Decide whether that improvement meets your goal before booking.

Marking a proposed fitting position on a benchtop

The surface and core may differ

A printed or textured face cannot be assumed to continue through a chipped edge. A fill may restore a smoother profile without recreating the same pattern, reflection or texture. Product name and thickness help the assessment.

Price each damaged point

Send individual photos with a ruler, and number the chips on a wider photograph. Porcelain has an additional per-chip charge above the applicable repair scope. Connected fractures or a missing corner may change the recommendation.

Know when to stop

Do not glue fragments, sand the face or experiment with a generic repair kit before asking for advice. A larger crack or unstable piece may need replacement. Cosmetic filling alone does not establish that the stone is sound.

Decide what improvement you need

Consider whether your concern is a sharp missing edge, the appearance from across the room or a close-up mismatch. A cosmetic repair may improve one concern while leaving another visible. A patterned face, thin edge and strongly lit island can each make the remaining difference noticeable. Explain which view matters most instead of relying only on the measured chip size.

Ask about alternatives

A small visible fill may be acceptable for an otherwise sound top. A broken corner, moving section or larger fracture may justify replacement advice. Ask which option is being proposed and why. Do not compare porcelain pricing directly with a standard engineered-stone chip without accounting for the material surcharge and result limitations.
